Nazareth Cascante | Costa Rica 2012

She is a 21-year old pharmaceutical sciences student from El Tambor of Alajuela, who at 5’8″ stands taller than the average Tica. Nazareth Cascante Madrigal became our new beauty queen after she consistently scored 9.5 on the judges’ scorecards at the 2012 Miss Costa Rica pageant held at Teletica’s studios last night. Among the musical guests at the pageant was Debi Nova.

Contestants at 59th iteration of the Miss Costa Rica beauty pageant knew that they had the highest expectations to meet. Aside from becoming queen of all Ticos, the crowned contestant knew that she would be taking over Miss Costa Rica 2011 Johanna Solano, a beauty queen who became a favorite not just in our country.

Johanna Solano was a runner-up at the 2011 Miss Universe held in Brazil. She charmed people all over the world, and a publication in Spain also had her listed as a runner-up as the beauty queen with the best physique. She was also one of the hardest-working beauty queens we’ve had the honor to crown, as she focused on many social outreach projects to protect the elderly in our country. Pageant observers argued that whoever was crowned Miss Costa Rica in 2012 would have the challenge of living up to Johanna Solano’s legacy.

That responsibility now falls on Nazareth Cascante, who also took home a new wardrobe and jewelry set, a new car and about $7,000 in cash. During the final interview segment of the pageant, Nazareth was asked who she would invite to visit our country, she promptly replied: “former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.” She also wants to support research into treatment of epidermolysis bullosa in children.

Due to the ages of the contestants, in the past most have been university students. This year’s Miss Costa Rica pageant was notable for having three practicing professionals among the ten finalists, two architects and one psychologist.
